Recording Though we have recorded onto tape machines in various places and used recording studios for Tinkerbells Dope Ring stuff, now we record onto computer. Though we use 98Lite at the moment (to be as fast and secure as possible) we have every intention of moving to Linux in the next year or 2, and have been experimenting with it for the past few years. We use Acid 2, SoundForge 4.5 and Cubase. Though we’ve not recorded anything on Linux yet i think we would use Audacity. I find that the way to record with computers is to use the computer for as little as possible, just as a muti-track recorder - otherwise you waste so much time with plugins and stuff that nothing gets done. Printing Albums Getting an album printed with a Jewel Case (the clear plastic case) and 2 page booklet (the outside is printed , the inside is blank) will cost about £600-£700 for 500, £700-£800 for 1000. Sometimes companies reproduce cds - copies, music cd roms when you ask for 500 or less. Proper cd prinitng involves a 'Glass Master'. This is a 'proper' audio cd. Bigger booklets, cardboard sleeves, basically anything else costs more. DIY We make our own artwork and have got Lorn House Studios, Edinburgh, to manufacture the albums (for about £2 each for colour-printed cds, £1 black on silver). We have tried to find as many decent mp3 sites (but they are beginning to be a waste of time - certainly not worth paying money for, unless anyone knows better, cdbaby??) as we can and put up a few tracks on each with links back to the Floppy Records website. We now have a Canon IP4000 printer that printes colour onto the back of cds (white topped ones), which is very nice so now we make everything ourselves. We still have to print the Jewel case back and leaflet though which is boring.
